Coming Home to the Body

An Embodied Pathway to Emotional Intelligence

By Estelle Gibbins

What This Book Is About

Most of us were never taught how to listen to our bodies.

We learned how to think, analyse, and push through. We learned to manage our emotions well enough to keep going. But somewhere along the way, the body became something we carry rather than somewhere we live.

Coming Home to the Body offers a different approach.

This book guides you through a practical, grounded process of reconnecting with your body's intelligence — not through analysis or self-criticism, but through simple, moment-to-moment awareness. It draws on the science of the nervous system and somatic experience to show how emotional intelligence doesn't begin in the mind. It begins in the body.

Written in clear, accessible language, this book is for anyone who has felt disconnected from themselves and wants to find their way back.

Who This Book Is For

This book is for you if:

# You often feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why you're reacting the way you are.

# You've tried therapy, journaling, or mindfulness — but something still feels missing.

# You want a practical, body-based way to understand your emotions.

# You're ready to stop managing yourself and start listening to yourself.

Coming Home to the Body is published by Avalon EQ.

What You Will Learn

Part One — Coming Home
How to begin listening to your body again. You'll learn what somatic awareness is, why sensation is information (not a problem), and how the nervous system is always responding on your behalf — even when you don't realise it.

Part Two — Going Deeper
How emotions move through the body, what gets in the way of that natural process, and how to work with your internal experience rather than against it.

Part Three — Living This Way in the World How to bring embodied awareness into everyday life — in relationships, decisions, and moments of pressure.

Throughout, short reflective pauses invite you to practice as you read. This is not a book to rush through. It is a book to experience.

From the book

“This is not a book to rush through.
You may find yourself pausing at certain points, noticing sensations in your body, or reflecting on experiences in your life.
These moments are part of the process."

About the Author

Estelle Gibbins is the founder of Avalon EQ, an Emotional Intelligence practice devoted to helping people reconnect with their bodies as the starting point for meaningful change. Her work guides individuals through life’s turning points—when stress, uncertainty, or disconnection signal that something deeper is ready to shift.

Drawing on psychology, coaching science, NLP, and somatic awareness, Estelle  teaches a body-first approach to emotional intelligence. She supports clients in recognising that what they feel in the body is not a problem to fix, but a signal to understand. Through simple yet powerful inquiry—“What am I aware of now?”—her work invites a return to presence, clarity, and self-trust.

Her approach is informed by an understanding that emotional experiences live within the body and can shape perception, behaviour, and wellbeing over time.

Rather than focusing on analysis alone, she helps people develop a grounded, embodied awareness that creates a felt sense of relief—like a deep exhale—and a renewed ease in being themselves.

Coming Home to the Body reflects this philosophy: a gentle, practical guide for anyone ready to step out of overwhelm and into a more connected, conscious relationship with themselves. It is the first step in a broader pathway of integration—body, mind, and spirit—symbolised by the gold fleur de lys at the heart of Avalon EQ.
